They began as favorites with seven nominations apiece, and they delivered a memorable night. The MTV Movie & TV Awards 2022 celebrated the best of film and television, with Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home and HBO’s Euphoria dominating the conversation among fans in Canada and the United States. Vanessa Hudgens hosted a premiere that brought together stars from the Marvel Universe, while Scarlett Johansson and Sophia Di Martino were among the honorees recognized for their work.

Tom Holland took home the award for best film performance for Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Zendaya earned the best performance in a series for her portrayal of Rue in Euphoria. The two did not appear together at the premiere, choosing to accept their awards via video messages rather than onstage as a couple in real life. Johansson received the golden popcorn bowl for best heroine for her role as Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow, while Daniel Radcliffe claimed best villain for his character in The Lost City.

The Barker Hangar in Los Angeles hosted the gala. Jennifer Lopez was honored with the Generation Award, recognizing a career that has made her an icon in music and film, an accolade previously given to stars such as Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise, and Reese Witherspoon. Jack Black also received the Comedy Genius Award for his contributions to the genre.
