A large motorboat had to be pulled into port by a crew today after a fire broke out in its engine room near the Freus area, just off Ibiza and Formentera. Salvamento Marítimo reported that the incident occurred around 14:30 in the afternoon and that the blaze prompted a rapid response from sea rescue services.
The high seas emergency relief service received the distress call regarding the yacht named Good Vibes, approximately 30 meters in length. There were no injuries reported among the people aboard beyond the captain and the owner; other passengers may have disembarked with the help of Salvamento Marítimo’s Salvamar Acrux, which was assisting a privately owned vessel navigating the region at the time a safe arrival was coordinated.
The yacht was escorted into port by a tug from the Ro-Ro dock operated by the Balearic Port Authority. Even as the vessel reached the quay, smoke continued to rise, signaling that the fire remained active. Firefighting crews remained on scene to continue extinguishing the flames and to secure the vessel, a critical step to prevent further danger to nearby boats and facilities.
In the hours following the incident, responders focused on ensuring the yacht could be safely moored and remained stable while the fire was brought under control. The coordinated effort underscored the readiness of maritime emergency services to manage fires at sea and to protect lives and property in busy coastal waters. The operation highlighted the collaboration between the rescue services, port authorities, and private vessels that often play a pivotal role in rapid incident response. [Source: Salvamento Marítimo]
