Moscow Student’s Illness Linked to Perfume Gift Sparks Medical Attention and Online Rumors

In Moscow, a university student reportedly received a bottle of perfume from a foreign visitor, smelled it, and soon after was taken to a psychiatric hospital. The account originated from the Telegram channel Basis, which published details about the incident.

Family members of the student said she had bought the fragrance on March 8. While a Russian woman waited in a traffic jam, a man approached the car, offered to meet, and after she declined, handed her a small bottle of perfume. The encounter prompted curiosity about the scent, and she accepted the gift before continuing on her way.

Upon returning home, the student began to show unusual behavior, according to relatives. Mood swings appeared, she stopped attending classes, and she later reportedly spoke about phrases like “dog-producing embryos” during conversations with family members.

Alarmed by the shifts in her mental state, the relatives contacted emergency services. Paramedics arrived and escorted the student to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation and treatment. At the time of reporting, doctors had not confirmed a diagnosis or identified a clear cause for the rapid changes in the student’s condition.

The source noted that there had been unverified posts on social networks suggesting that unknown individuals were distributing lethal perfumes across multiple Russian cities. The cultivation of such rumors raised concerns about the potential impact of scented products and the speed with which information can circulate online.

Earlier reports mentioned another unrelated incident in St. Petersburg involving a child and personal care products, highlighting how rumors and accidental exposure can lead to hospital visits and confusion around safety practices.
