Moscow’s city services are operating at a heightened level as a new round of snowfall sweeps through the city, a situation confirmed by the Urban Services channel for the capital. The ongoing weather conditions have prompted authorities to keep essential city functions ready for rapid response, ensuring roads, transit corridors, and public spaces remain as safe and passable as possible under the strain of winter weather.

According to Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov, forecasts remain unfavorable, and city services are actively operating in an enhanced mode. Emergency rescue teams from engineering enterprises and district administrations are on duty around the clock to address incidents, clear snow, and assist residents who may be affected by the heavy snowfall and icy surfaces.

From noon today, municipal machinery has been steadily sweeping streets and applying de-icing by priority routes to maintain mobility for residents and essential services. The working cycle is designed to repeat as further precipitation wanes, with the current heavy snowfall demanding the maximum deployment of crews and equipment to protect pedestrian areas and transportation corridors.

To help truck drivers navigate the storm, a dedicated tractor duty has been organized, ensuring that large freight vehicles can move safely and efficiently when conditions allow. In addition, preparations are underway to begin roof snow and ice removal on Monday, December 4, to prevent damage and reduce the risk of falling debris in densely populated districts.

Roman Vilfand, Scientific Director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, indicated that heavy snowfall in Moscow is expected to continue through the morning hours of December 4, with the heaviest rainfall concentrated in the capital before midnight. Local weather services are closely monitoring atmospheric conditions and updating advisories to help residents plan travel and activities.

Residents of Moscow have been advised by the Hydrometeorological Center to avoid unnecessary driving while weather conditions remain severe, as visibility reduces and road surfaces become treacherous. People are encouraged to use public transit where possible and to prepare for extended travel times in the affected areas.

Earlier today, the capital’s Emergency Ministry issued a storm warning for December 3, underscoring the need for caution, proactive snow removal, and readiness across critical infrastructure and residential neighborhoods. Citizens are urged to stay informed through official channels and follow guidance issued by city authorities during the ongoing storm conditions.
