The National Police have detained a 17-year-old Syrian national in Montellano, a municipality in the Seville province, in connection with alleged ties to jihadist terrorism. Investigative sources provided to EFE indicate that the operation was coordinated by the National Court.
The arrest occurred Sunday night into the early hours of Monday in Montellano, a town with about 7,000 residents located in the Sierra Norte region south of Seville. A police deployment spanning roughly seven hours effectively blocked several central streets, and around thirty officers from the General Information Commissariat were deployed, generating significant expectation among local residents.
Following the detention, authorities conducted a home search, collecting numerous boxes and suitcases before transporting the suspect to Madrid accompanied by his mother. Since the detainee is a minor, his sister, who is also a minor, was placed under the care of a trusted family member during the proceedings.
Reports indicate that the mother alerted her son after noticing suspicious messages on his mobile phone, which prompted concerns that he might engage in criminal activity.
The Montellano City Council issued a statement urging calm, noting that although the investigation would continue over the next several hours, there was no indicated risk to the public.
