Even with a job, meeting basic living costs can still be a challenge. In these situations and many more, support is available in the form of the Minimum Living Income. This benefit provides financial assistance to people at risk of social exclusion or poverty who meet certain economic, asset, and residency criteria.

The Minimum Living Income is a Social Security benefit. It was established in 2020 to prevent social exclusion for individuals living alone or sharing a home when they lack the necessary economic resources to cover basic needs, as defined by the government.

Who can apply for this aid?

Eligible individuals may include unmarried adults over 23, women who are of legal age and do not have a de facto partner or are not part of another cohabiting unit, and survivors of gender-based violence or victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. It also covers those aged 18 to 22 coming from protective centers for minors and those who are homeless.

The program, along with other social benefits like pensions and non-contributory pensions, has seen updates and adjustments in recent years. For 2024, changes are aligned with Royal Decree 2/2023 and the Toledo Pact recommendation 15. The precise amounts available under different scenarios can be found in the Social Security Journal. As a reference, the IMV for a single person is set at 600 euros per month, while a person with a dependent child would be entitled to 784 euros per month.
