At least nine people died and fifteen were injured in an attack described by authorities as carried out by armed criminals at the Minera Poderosa facilities in Peru. Four workers were taken hostage during the assault on the company’s internal security measures.
According to officials, the assailants entered the mine using explosives, triggering a deadly incident. The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the toll, noting nine fatalities and fifteen injuries as a result of the attack.
The Peruvian National Police deployed a special forces unit to the site and intensified operations in collaboration with local police to secure the area. Authorities have since gained control of the situation and reportedly arrested seven individuals linked to the raid.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said it would express solidarity with the families of the deceased workers and continue to provide updates on the investigation as it unfolds.
