Marin local authorities reported a fatal incident in the Estribela district near Pontevedra, with the death of a 33-year-old woman. Preliminary information indicates the crime occurred around five in the morning within the Pontevedra municipality, very close to Marin, at a residence on 31st Cunchidos street.
Shortly after, officers from Marin located and apprehended the suspected perpetrator. According to sources familiar with the investigation, the National Police assumed custody of the detainee and took charge of the inquiry at the Pontevedra Police Station.
The Scientific Police have begun gathering evidence at the scene, and investigators are exploring the cause of death, which appears to involve a knife. Early assessments suggest there may be limited connections between the victim and the assailant.
One line of inquiry under consideration is the possibility of a drug debt. While authorities have not ruled out any angle, investigators have not yet confirmed this case as gender-based violence.
The body of the deceased remained at the residence until about 9:30, when it was removed for autopsy. The building where the stabbing took place is reported to be in a markedly neglected state.
Less than four months earlier, the same neighborhood experienced another incident of violence in February, when an explosion occurred in a car trunk and the vehicle was set on fire. The victim, a 29-year-old welder from Marin, was found completely unclothed and managed to escape the vehicle despite injuries from burns.
