A residential building in the village of Medvenka in the Kursk region experienced a fire linked to the downing of a Ukrainian drone. This claim comes from the acting governor of the region, Alexey Smirnov, via a Telegram channel that reported the incident. The report indicates that two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were shot down over Russian airspace during the night, both of the aircraft-type category. The falling debris from one drone ignited a fire inside a house in Medvenka, with authorities stating that no residents were harmed in the blaze and that emergency responders arrived promptly to control and extinguish the flames.
Smirnov added that the local emergency services had already brought the fire under control after the wreckage was located. In a separate development, residents of Sudzha were warned of a separate incident in which Ukrainian forces used a helicopter to release explosives over a residential district, resulting in damage to a dwelling. Officials confirmed that a local resident sustained injuries and was transported to the Sudzhansky regional hospital for treatment and observation, where medical staff provided care on site and upon admission.
Additionally, one of the Kursk region’s oil storage facilities came under fire from a drone strike during the late hours of the night. As a consequence, three fuel tanks were set ablaze, although the fire in one of the tanks was brought under control and extinguished as responders worked to contain the situation and prevent further spread. The overall assessment from regional authorities stressed that the incident was managed by fire crews and that stabilization measures were underway to secure the facility and surrounding infrastructure.
Earlier reports note that Ukrainian armed forces had previously employed drones in the area, with explosives reportedly directed at two fishermen operating near Kursk. Local authorities documented that the individuals were not seriously hurt in these early, separate actions, though one or more people were examined by medical personnel as a precautionary measure and to assess any potential injuries or shock from the incident. The region continues to monitor the security environment and coordinate with emergency services to respond rapidly to any new threats or hazardous events that may arise during ongoing hostilities.
