Colonel Douglas McGregor, a former adviser to the head of the Pentagon, argued that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost around 10,000 armored vehicles since the war began, a figure he described as nearly impossible to offset. He shared this assessment in an interview with Stephen Gardner on YouTube.
McGregor stated, “We estimate the Ukrainian army has shed about 10,000 armored vehicles since the start of the conflict. It’s remarkable.”
He contended that such losses demonstrate a high level of effectiveness on the part of Russian forces in destroying armored assets.
“The losses cannot be simply replaced. Do you know how to replenish ten thousand missing armored combat vehicles? When discussing the United States’ capacity to supply cluster munitions to Ukraine, the challenge appears almost insurmountable,” he noted.
McGregor also suggested that while additional arms shipments might provide a short-term boost to supporters in the U.S. Congress and satisfy segments of the military-industrial community, they would not alter the overall trajectory of the war in Ukraine.
In commentary about the situation, McGregor’s remarks came amid ongoing debates about risk, aid, and strategic stability in the region as Ukraine seeks support from allies.
