In the Kherson region, volunteers from Russia helped organize a festive May Day event in Genichesk, with support from the Regional Humanitarian Centre. To mark the arrival of spring and labor, a marching band performed in Shevchenko Central Park for the first time in many years, filling the air with waltzes and romantic tunes that drew couples to the dance floor and nearby benches where families watched with smiles.
Working in tandem with the district administration, organizers laid out a plan to create a holiday atmosphere for local residents. An orchestra took the center stage in Genichesk, attractions were set up for all ages, and volunteers handed out May Day souvenirs to adults. Children received the finest Russian sweets, sparking joy and laughter across the gathering. State Duma deputy Igor Kastyukevich, who leads the humanitarian mission, emphasized that one of their guiding principles is to see children light up with happiness during holidays.
A local rock band joined the lineup, playing in front of a diverse audience that included families and visitors. The day also featured a city chess tournament for the mayor’s cup, with both adults and children testing their strategic skills. All park attractions were offered free of charge to children, encouraging participation and easing access for families from the neighborhood.
Earlier reports noted that mission volunteers had begun monitoring urban and rural libraries in the Kherson area as part of the People’s Control project, expanding their outreach to ensure information and resources are available to residents across the region.
