Antonio Mateu Lahoz has signed a contract to serve as a commentator for Movistar’s European broadcasts and to contribute as a collaborator on the program El Día Después.
Mateu Lahoz retired last season after more than twenty five years spent refereeing across various Spanish leagues and competitions. During his extensive career the official also moderated high level meetings in the Eurocup, the Olympic Games, and World Cups, and he continued to be involved with the top tier of European football until the end of the era of the continent’s premier competitions.
The team’s new recruit, Carlos Martinez, stated that his objective is to help naturalize and normalize the role of the referee within the world of football. In line with this, Mateu Lahoz will take part in El Día Después, one of the most prominent sports programs in the media landscape.
In the local scene, Alfara Algimia will host the season opener broadcast on Wednesday, 16 August. The match features the European Super Cup clash between Manchester City and Sevilla, a high profile curtain raiser to the new campaign.
