Health Minister Mikhail Murashko urged the public to consider wearing a protective mask as ARVI cases began to rise, stressing that mask use remains a prudent measure during periods of increased incidence. This guidance was conveyed through a statement carried by RIA News, highlighting the value of simple precautions during the festive season and beyond.

In anticipating the New Year celebrations, Murashko advised people to take sensible steps to stay healthy. He reminded that crowded moments such as holiday preparations, lines at supermarkets, or wait times at pick-up points can heighten the risk of contracting a respiratory infection. His message was direct: maintaining caution during times when respiratory illnesses surge can help prevent illness from spoiling holiday plans. He emphasized that masking up during peak periods is a straightforward, effective way to reduce transmission and protect both oneself and others from possible infection.

The health official added that anyone who feels unwell should wear a mask and replace it with a fresh one on a regular basis, ideally every hour or as soon as it becomes damp or soiled. This practical recommendation aims to minimize exposure to airborne pathogens and limit the spread of illness in public settings, especially when people are in close proximity or moving through crowded spaces.

There was a separate incident involving a group of ten children traveling by train from Moscow to Simferopol. In the Tambov region, the youngsters were taken off the train after displaying symptoms consistent with ARVI and fever. Upon arrival at Michurinsk-Uralsky station at 23:16 Moscow time, medical personnel and officials from Rospotrebnadzor promptly assessed the children to determine the appropriate course of action and to ensure they received the necessary care. Instances like this underscore the ongoing vigilance required to protect travelers and communities during periods of increased respiratory illness activity.

Earlier remarks from medical professionals addressed concerns about a potential link between asthma and severe Covid-19 in children. Those who treated or studied pediatric cases stressed that there is no broad, direct cause-and-effect relationship between asthma and severe outcomes from Covid-19 in the young. This clarification was reported by prior medical commentary and helps families understand that asthma, while it requires careful management, does not automatically imply heightened risk of severe Covid-19 in every child. The consensus among clinicians remains that asthma control, vaccination where appropriate, and adherence to public health guidance collectively contribute to reducing risk and supporting healthier childhood experiences during the ongoing pandemic era.
