No one expected that even a week into Survivors, a contestant would have to leave the competition — and then tragedy struck. Zayra Gutierrez died. He had to exit the island because painful sciatica made it impossible to stand. The show needed a swift replacement, and a new participant would be launched by helicopter this Thursday, joining the lineup. The timing would align with two weeks into the season.
During last Thursday’s broadcast, Jorge Javier Vazquez announced changes to the program: Zayra would be replaced by a new participant, and the new contestant’s identity would be revealed on Sunday. The long-anticipated addition to Survivors 2024 is Marieta, who previously appeared on Temptation Island 7.
Sandra Barneda, who knows Marieta well from Elche, described the newcomer with clear enthusiasm: “She is someone who would give you something if you dreamed of stepping onto this stage a few months ago tonight.” She added, “She’s feisty, she’s a warrior, she doesn’t stay quiet, she has real character… She’s pure fire, a true bonfire.” The introduction of Marieta on stage sparked a wave of reactions, with Marta Penate expressing palpable excitement about the development.
Marieta is set to begin her adventure with a helicopter jump into Honduras next Thursday. Before leaving, she even visited the set of Conexión Honduras.
Fully aware of what it means to join Survivors, Marieta appeared visibly excited as she stepped onto the set and said, “I still haven’t absorbed it.” She added, “I’m prepared for anything. I will forget the nerves and I am ready for anything.”
Words of encouragement arrived quickly from Marta Penate, who knows Marieta well and offered support: “I know you will give yourself completely; I’m really excited for you.”
Temptation Island controversy before Survivors
Before heading to Honduras, Marieta had a sharp word for the Island of Charm. “See you before your trip to Honduras. On Wednesday we have our first final discussion on Seductions and your reunion with Álex”, reported Sandra Barneda. With that, Marieta was prepared to join the discussion prior to her big adventure on Thursday, when she would finally take the leap from the helicopter on Survivors.
It should be noted that Marieta is not a contestant on any couples reality show. Her time in the villas was the most talked-about topic in this edition, so much so that her reunion with partner Álex, along with the rest of her circle, was not broadcast and was instead confined to this Wednesday. There is also talk of regulatory matters.
Marieta left Temptation Island unsettled after the first week of meeting and kissing Sergio. Her boyfriend Álex reacted immediately and did the same, and more, with Gabriella. Watching her boyfriend’s photos, Marieta also grew close to Sergio, but the Granada native wanted only a light, carefree connection, which pleased the young woman and drove a rift with him. When the moment came, she found herself drawn back toward Álex, even attempting to rejoin the men’s villa to locate him. Had she found him, he might have seen her in bed with Gabriella.
At the final bonfire, Marieta hoped to leave with Álex, but he chose to walk away alone and head to Murcia with a local woman. The ultimate fate of their relationship remains to be seen as the reality show progresses and potential reconciliation happens off-camera in the weeks ahead.
