A couple in Manacor faces six years in prison each for alleged abuse of the woman’s daughter, a 14-year-old girl. The prosecutors describe a pattern of deeply humiliating and abusive treatment that persisted for several months. The girl fled during the night to seek help from neighbors, who alerted the police. A future criminal trial is expected to take place in Palma’s criminal court in the coming months.
According to the public prosecution, the events began in November 2021. The two suspects, a 47-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man, began a relationship and moved in with the daughter in Manacor. They allegedly aimed to undermine the girl’s mental and physical health by repeatedly addressing her in a demeaning manner and subjecting her to insults. The couple also carried out multiple instances of physical abuse, including slaps and pushes against the teenager.
The latest incident occurred on the night of April 30, 2022. Returning home intoxicated, the couple confronted the girl when she sought to leave for fear of further violence. They restrained her and assaulted her, causing injuries to her left arm, as stated in the indictment filed by the public prosecutor.
The girl escaped the residence while the adults slept, making her way to the town square of Manacor and seeking help from two passersby who accompanied her to the National Police station. Hospital examinations confirmed injuries to her left wrist, and she spent about a month in recovery, leaving lasting consequences.
National Police officers questioned the young survivor, and in the hours that followed they detained the two defendants. A guard court issued a two-year restraining order to keep the girl away from them.
Two charges
The public prosecutor accuses both defendants of habitual domestic abuse and of injuries, the latter aggravated by their kinship. The state seeks six years of imprisonment for each suspect and a payment of 5,250 euros to the girl to compensate for the injuries, the moral damages, and the long-term effects reported by the victim.
A recent court session in Palma served as a preliminary hearing for the case. The defendants did not appear, and the judge scheduled the full trial for a later date in Palma, leaving open the question of prosecution and additional evidence.
