Manacor Case Involving Alleged Dual Child Endangerment under Police Investigation
An accused woman faces allegations of attempting to murder her two children, aged 4 and 14, in Manacor, Mallorca, based on a police investigation. Reports indicate that she allegedly added rat poison to meals, supplied a strong sedative to both children, and attempted to suffocate one of the victims with a pillow. The suspect reportedly consumed a toxic substance herself as part of a suicide attempt. She is charged with two counts of attempted murder as the inquiry unfolds.
According to police accounts, the sequence of events began on a Sunday morning when a man alerted emergency services that he was sleeping in a room within the family home, which housed multiple bedrooms along with his wife, daughter, and another child. The wife is said to have told the man that she had poisoned herself and their children, prompting him to rush to the bedroom to protect the children and attend to his wife, who had reportedly ingested salfumán. Numerous safety patrol officers and ambulances responded to the scene, and the rescuers transported the woman and the two children to a hospital in Palma.
National Police officers from the Homicide Group in Palma took charge of the inquiry. They collected evidence, conducted interviews, and carried out searches at the residence. In the ensuing search, investigators found a large quantity of medications, predominantly benzodiazepines, along with a packet of rat poison. Investigators noted that more than half of the packet’s contents appeared to be missing. From the gathered data, authorities believe the woman had given sedatives to her two underage children, later preparing meals for all three of them, with indications pointing to the poisoning being added to the food preparation.
Questions remain about the identity of the woman and the exact timeline of events, including reports that she had taken pills and consumed salfumán while informing her ex-husband and father that one of the minors was sleeping in a separate bedroom at the time. The meal prepared by the woman is undergoing examination, and results from relevant analyses are awaited to shed more light on the case. The police have noted that the mother allegedly attempted to strangle her 14-year-old daughter twice, with the minor resisting, and investigators are pursuing all angles of the case.
Following the review of the evidence, officers from the National Police Homicide Unit began detaining the mother on suspicion of being the perpetrator of two attempted murders. The woman was taken into custody and held at the hospital’s detention unit for processing while the minors remain under protection, with authorities stating there is no immediate danger to their lives. The ongoing investigation continues to gather statements, forensic results, and additional material to determine the full scope of the alleged crimes.
