Major traffic disruption after multi-vehicle collision on Moscow highway
Traffic on the Moscow Kievskoe highway was brought to a standstill following a collision between a car transporter and a truck at the 92nd kilometer, in the Borovsky district. The incident prompted emergency services to rush to the scene and manage the crash recovery, while authorities diverted traffic to prevent further congestion.
Initial reports indicate that the Mercedes car transporter began reducing speed as it descended a mountain pass. The driver of the DAF truck did not anticipate the slowdown and collided with the rear of the car carrier. The impact forced the car carrier into the crash barrier, and then it veered into the opposite lane, blocking traffic in both directions. The force of the collision caused significant damage and created a wider hazard for approaching vehicles.
The truck driver sustained injuries and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. Police and rescue teams worked to secure the site, assess the damage, and clear the road as quickly as possible to alleviate the growing backlog of vehicles.
Completely blocked lanes resulted in a substantial traffic jam, stretching for miles as drivers waited for the scene to clear. Emergency responders coordinated with road operators to implement detours and provide some relief to stranded motorists as they navigated alternative routes.
On a separate incident along the Moscow Ring Road, near the 107th kilometer on the inner side, another collision involved two trucks. A socialbites.ca correspondent, who observed the aftermath, noted that the Hyundai truck’s cabin sustained severe damage after being struck from behind by a heavy-duty semi-trailer. Authorities treated the scene as a priority, ensuring that barriers remained intact and that the wreckage did not pose further danger to passing traffic.
These events underscore the challenges of heavy vehicle traffic on major corridors and the importance of maintaining safe following distances, especially on descents and highway interchanges. Drivers are reminded to stay vigilant, reduce speed when approaching slow-moving traffic, and report hazards promptly to emergency services to help minimize the impact on travel times and road safety.
