Authorities in Spain concluded a high-profile criminal case centered on a gang-like assault that targeted an 18-year-old British tourist in Magaluf. The investigation culminated with the arrest of the last two suspects on Sunday, following the recent detention of eight teenagers linked to the alleged rape in the early hours of a Monday morning. Earlier, six individuals who were detained shortly after the incident remained in custody after giving statements to the duty court.

According to the Civil Guard, the case was brought to light early last Monday when reports indicated a sexual assault involving a young British tourist. In response, officers from multiple units were mobilized to locate and apprehend those responsible, with sexual crimes experts providing support and the victim receiving immediate medical attention. The young woman was transported to Son Espases for medical care and was later brought before the duty magistrate after a forensic examination documented the assault.

Investigators faced a challenging task due to the scale and nature of the case. It appeared that the victim had been attacked by a larger group with no obvious prior links among the assailants, though they converged at that moment and encouraged one another to participate in multiple acts of aggression.

The Civil Guard acted decisively, and on the same Monday, six alleged offenders — five young French nationals and a Swiss citizen — were taken into custody. They appeared before the court the following day, where the presiding judge ordered their detention without bail.

As the inquiry progressed, authorities learned that two additional suspects were still at large. Law enforcement tracked them through a methodical, clock-driven investigation but could not immediately detain them because they had already fled toward international routes, heading to Baden-Baden Airport in Germany before reaching a residence in Strasbourg, France.

Following the identification of all involved individuals, the Civil Guard sought international cooperation by requesting the assistance of French authorities via formal channels and urging the Mallorca investigating judge to act. Two European Arrest Warrants were transmitted to the French police through Europol for the suspects who remained at large.

The next morning, updates from the French National Gendarmerie confirmed the arrest of one suspect in Scherwiller. A few hours later, the second suspect was apprehended near Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport, just as he was preparing to board a flight to Turkey to evade justice.

Officials noted that since June 1 of the current year, a specialized Forensic Police unit focused on sexually explicit crimes had been operating in the Calvià area. This team worked in close coordination with the Balearic Islands Civil Guard, enabling rapid arrests and robust action against those involved in brutal sexual violence. In parallel, collaborative efforts among the French gendarmerie and Italian authorities contributed to the broader operation, underscoring the transnational nature of the investigation and the commitment to resolving such cases swiftly.
