Two Arrests Linked to a Pioz-Based Group, Suspected in a Brutal Home Invasion

Suspicion fell on Cristian B. from the moment his former girlfriend, Laura Villar Fernández, and her parents were found murdered at their Chiloeches home in Guadalajara. Cristian already carried a protective order from Laura, making the case more complex. Now, officers from the Guadalajara Homicide Group have detained the 22-year-old in connection with the ongoing investigation.

According to El Periódico de España, part of the same editorial group as this outlet, Cristian faces a provisional accusation for home robbery with force, in the role of instigator. Investigators have established that the only intruder who entered the Villar Fernández residence in the Medina Azahara development was Fernando P.S., Cristian’s close friend and currently in custody. Fernando allegedly admitted to being the actual perpetrator of the triple crime after breaking in and being identified by the family.

The other detainee is David M.A., Cristian’s nephew, who is said to have waited outside the house in a black Peugeot to help with the getaway. A third person, Windybeth B.G., Fernando’s partner, was also detained but remains the only one to have been released on provisional liberty.

The Inductor

What was Cristian’s role in the events? He was questioned in the first hours after the crime and released. Investigators close to the case believe he acted as the robber’s instigator, providing details about the house to Fernando. Cristian had shared a several-month relationship with Laura Villar Fernández, the 22-year-old woman killed during the assault, and he was believed to know specific information about the residence that he allegedly conveyed to Fernando.

Crucially, Cristian reportedly knew from his ex-girlfriend that Ángel, Laura’s father, kept a collection of high-end watches in one of the home’s rooms and that substantial cash was stored inside. After their breakup, Cristian was reported to Laura, which barred him from approaching the home. Nevertheless, he is said to have supplied these details to Fernando and David, enabling them to target the residence.

Cristian, a young man described by neighbors in Pioz as troubled, is 23 years old and has prior records for theft and fraud, in addition to the protective order. He, along with his nephew David and friend Fernando, referred to themselves as the “Mafia of Pioz,” a label they used in photos and videos posted on social media. Most of these youths reportedly faced addiction issues and practiced martial arts.

The Roles

The investigation now assigns distinct roles to each member of the alleged “Mafia of Pioz” in the events of the night of April 12. Cristian allegedly served as the instigator, sharing information on entry points and the locations of valuables. With that intel, David reportedly retrieved his mother’s car, picked up Fernando, and drove him to the neighborhood, waiting outside for the loot to be retrieved.

On arrival, investigators believe Fernando single-handedly entered the Villar Fernández home, armed with two large knives. Elvira Villar Fernández, the mother, woke to the noise and called emergency services. From that point, the family is believed to have seen Fernando and identified him, which researchers think led to the killing of the three victims. Afterward, Fernando is said to have set the house on fire and fled again in David’s car.

Following the assault, Fernando reportedly escaped with Windybeth to the Cervantes Hostel in Daganzo de Arriba. Windybeth, a 36-year-old cousin of the Venezuelan opposition figure Juan Guaidó, is described as the one who helped cover the escape, reserving room 101 at the hostel where the two sought refuge.

The investigation continues, now fortified by Cristian’s testimony, which authorities believe contains more details than his initial statements. At present, the three members of the so-called “Mafia of Pioz” remain in custody, while the only person freed so far is Windybeth, who has drawn public interest due to her connection to a notable political figure, who has publicly distanced himself and urged that “the full weight of the law be applied to her.”
