The Madrid Pride week unfolds this Tuesday morning with a vibrant schedule dedicated to the LGBTI community, spanning from July 1 through July 10. Among the week’s highlights, the spotlight remains on the Mr. Gay 2022 gala, which returns for its 8th edition to light up the Plaza de España stage on Friday, promising a memorable guest appearance that adds a special spark to the evening.
The renowned singer Isabel Pantoja is set to receive the Mr Gay 2022 award, recognizing her enduring career and close ties to the LGBTI community. Reports from Europa Press note that the Madrid Orgullo association has teased a major surprise planned for the gala, heightening anticipation among attendees. The award ceremony will be presented by the competition’s directors, Juan Martín Boll and Nano García, who will bestow the honor on the celebrated artist after a procession of performances and tributes designed to celebrate diversity and inclusion within the entertainment industry.
During the same gala, Mr. Gay Spain 2022 will be chosen from among participants representing 14 autonomous communities that have made it to the final rounds. The event will feature hosts Luján Argüelles and Omar Suárez, with a preview segment crafted by Javier Penedo and Andrea Sánchez from LOS40 Classic, setting the tone for a night of style, courage, and community spirit.
Attendees can expect a rich lineup of performers who bring energy and color to the stage. The evening will showcase artists such as Cristina Ramos, Lerica, and Mirela, alongside appearances by this year’s Eurovision acts and other international and regional talents who will deliver a dynamic mix of pop, dance, and classic favorites. One notable moment will feature a performance by an artist associated with the Eurovision community, delivering a hit that resonates with many fans and aligns with the festive mood of the festival.
Beyond the Plaza de España venue, the Pride celebration expands its footprint with three additional concert spaces at Plaza Pedro Zerolo, Plaza del Rey, and Callao. The festival roster includes an impressive array of artists who have contributed to the era-defining moments of modern Spanish pop and international acts, such as Jamala, Dana International, Soraya, Javiera Mena, Conchita Wurst, Soleá Morente, María Peláe, Azúcar Moreno, Agoney, Alba Reche, and Nia Correia. Their performances collectively contribute to a multi-venue experience that celebrates artistry, solidarity, and the ongoing fight for equal rights and recognition for the LGBTI community. The posters and promotional materials highlight a vibrant cross-section of genres and generations, underscoring Madrid Pride’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural exchange throughout the weekend and beyond.
