A coordinated operation conducted by Civil Guard investigators led to the arrest of five individuals who are identified as Colombian nationals and residents of Barcelona and Madrid. These suspects are linked to a criminal group that specialized in breaking into residential properties and stealing valuables. The authorities disclosed that the group operated with a level of planning that could easily mislead onlookers, which contributed to a broader investigation about their movements across national territory.
The operation, carried out in the Lugo municipalities of O Corgo and Pol, resulted in the attribution of at least twenty residential robberies to the group. These burglaries targeted homes across the regions of Lugo, A Coruña, and Pontevedra, according to the Civil Guard. The force emphasized that the thieves were active across multiple provinces, suggesting a carefully organized crime network with regional reach and a strategy to minimize suspicion while traveling between communities.
During searches conducted as part of the operation, agents recovered a substantial stash of stolen goods from the vehicles used by the suspects. Investigators reported finding a large quantity of jewelry, handbags, computer equipment, and cash that is believed to have originated from the listed home invasions. The seizure also included specialized tools and equipment used to facilitate the break-ins, underscoring the systematic nature of the gang’s criminal activity.
Among the items seized was a kit used to assess the karats of gold and other means to verify the authenticity, weight, and value of diamonds. This equipment indicated a deliberate approach to valuing and handling the stolen jewelry, enabling the group to quickly ascertain the worth of recovered items and potentially resell them on black-market channels or through covert exchanges.
Victims of the robberies were residents of several towns that the Civil Guard identified as directly impacted by the group’s activities. The properties stolen from are located in Outeiro de Rei, Oleiros, Cambre, Culleredo, Abegondo, and Lugo, with authorities stressing the importance of returning recovered pieces to their rightful owners. The investigation remains ongoing as the force works to verify the provenance of each item and establish a complete inventory of the stolen goods.
The Civil Guard noted that the operation, which they have designated as Aedis, is still unfolding as detectives pursue additional lines of inquiry. Officers are working to identify legitimate owners of remaining recovered items and to locate other potential victims whose homes may have been affected by the group’s activities. This phase of the investigation may lead to further discoveries about the scale and scope of the network, as well as any accomplices who may still be at large.
Those detained face formal charges related to participation in a criminal organization, ongoing robberies of residential properties, and falsification of documents. The authorities explained that the charges reflect the gang’s structured approach to crime, including the use of forged documentation to facilitate travel and evade law enforcement scrutiny. The detainees have been presented before Lugo’s No. 1 Investigation Court for processing as the case proceeds through the judicial system.
