The band Lontreira emerged as one of the most exciting musical discoveries this summer. They performed in Galicia’s leading venues, releasing their debut album Apnea, and earned a finalist spot at the prestigious Martín Códax music awards. Today, they take another significant step in their career by positioning themselves as Spain’s potential representative if Eurovision earns enough support to reach the 24 semi-finalists at Benidorm Fest.

The possibility feels tangible. Similar to the breakthrough of Tanxugueiras two years ago, Lontreira is currently among the Top 100 in The Internal Choice, a poll conducted among European fans to identify the ideal Eurovision pick. The trio—Héctor Rodríguez on bass and keyboards, Adri Cores on vocals, and Iván Barral on guitar—has only just entered the race and sits among 874 songs that were considered. They still face a second hurdle before the 24 finalists are chosen, but making the elite list has sparked real excitement for the group. Adri Cores, the singer known across the island, expressed enthusiasm: “We are Eurovision fans, and Héctor is thrilled as well. We had already thought about entering since we had nothing to lose, so we went ahead with our summer performance on TVG and were ultimately selected.” He added that while predicting results is tough, the win would be a milestone that fuels the team’s drive to keep moving forward. The trio intends to work intensely, aiming to release new songs that sharpen their focus for the competition’s demands.

Preparations are underway for Benidorm Fest. The chosen entry will be performed in Galician and is described as a fusion of tradition and modernity, blending root music with electronic textures. The concept aims to capture the attention of eurofans while staying true to Lontreira’s sound and identity.

Regarding the Internal Selection process, voting runs from last Monday until next Sunday at 20:00 to determine the 24 candidates who will advance to the semi-finals from the Top 100. Those interested in voting must register on the Eurovision Spain website.

Lontreira rose to fame after winning a local competition with a summer TVG appearance and the performance of the song Corazón de toxo. In the summer of 2022 they appeared on TVG and even on Portuguese television RTP.
