The Lipetsk Regional Court has ordered the payment of moral damages to the parents of an underage schoolgirl after she accidentally struck a friend with an axe, an act that left the boy with a serious injury. The decision was announced by the press service of the regional department.
According to law enforcement, the incident occurred in late 2022 during a casual outing. A 13-year-old boy was walking with two sisters and two girls he knew when one of the girls brought along an axe. The group had planned to chop a branch while talking about lighting a small fire later in the day.
During the attempt to cut the branch, the girl swung the axe and struck her friend in the face, resulting in a severe injury. The blow caused the boy to lose sight in one eye, leaving him permanently impaired. The family of the victim pursued legal action to seek compensation for non-pecuniary damages as well as medical expenses related to the injury.
The Lipetsk Regional Court panel ruled in favor of the plaintiff, ordering the defendants to pay 290 thousand rubles. The court found that the conduct at the time of the incident constituted fault that caused moral and financial hardship to the victim and his family. The ruling underscores the court’s commitment to protecting the rights of minors and ensuring accountability in situations where negligent acts lead to serious harm. The court case and its outcome were reported by the regional press service, which provided details about the proceedings and the final judgment.
In a separate, previously reported incident in Russia, a man sustained a life-changing injury when a tree was improperly cut, resulting in damage to an arm and artery. The relatives rushed the injured person to hospital, where medical teams performed emergency surgery to control the damage. After stabilization, the patient was moved to a standard ward where doctors continued to monitor recovery. Surgeons succeeded in preserving both mobility and sensation in the hand, illustrating the ongoing challenges that can arise in similar accidents and the importance of prompt medical care.
Additionally, reports described an incident in which a former Chelyabinsk student attacked a friend with a knife following a dispute sparked by an insult to his girlfriend. This event highlights how conflicts among youths can escalate quickly and the potential legal consequences that can follow such actions. The broader context of these incidents emphasizes the role of family, school, and community in safeguarding young people and preventing injuries while also addressing the legal responsibilities of those involved.
