An object that crashed in rural northern Poland has been described by local authorities as likely a weather balloon. The update comes from Rafal Jackowski, the police representative for the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, as reported by RIA News.
Officials say a village resident observed an unknown item lying in a field and immediately notified law enforcement. Police secured the site and arranged transport of the object for inspection by the army to determine its origin and purpose.
Jackowski stated that investigators aim to establish what the object is and where it came from. He indicated that the evidence points toward a weather balloon being the most probable explanation.
On March 4, a separate incident occurred in a village within the Milakovo region of Warmia-Masuria, where a similar unknown object was found. Polish media have speculated about possible military uses in some cases, though authorities have yet to confirm any such intent for the latest discovery.
Like several prior events, this latest discovery follows a pattern that has raised questions about unidentified aerial phenomena in the region. In April 2023, wreckage alleged to be an unidentified military aerial object was reported about 15 kilometers from Bydgoszcz, west of Warsaw. Later information suggested the item may have been a missile used as a target during a military exercise.
Another earlier report involved a disk-shaped object observed by Ukrainian forces, which authorities have not fully corroborated. The ongoing situation underscores the careful approach taken by Polish authorities as they investigate unfamiliar aerial objects and assess any potential safety or security implications for nearby communities.
