In April 2022, a powerful gas explosion tore through a multi-story residential building in the Moscow region, taking six lives and injuring four others. The incident drew a detailed inquiry from the Investigative Committee, and the press service later confirmed the outcome: Alexei Zarubin was found guilty and received a life sentence from the Moscow Regional Court.

According to the court’s ruling, Zarubin had planned to murder his wife and children by simulating a gas explosion at their home. The scheme involved placing a blanket over a vent, lighting four gas burners, and severing the flexible gas line to the stove before igniting the gas-air mixture. On the morning of April 11, the blast occurred, causing structural collapse at the entrance and widespread devastation throughout the building.

The catastrophe resulted in six fatalities, including Zarubin’s wife and children, and left four residents with injuries. Investigators assessed the act as a premeditated murder carried out amid ongoing domestic tensions and planned to end the family discord through the deadly incident.

Earlier, two soldiers in Rostov-on-Don were sentenced to life imprisonment in a separate case, reported during the same period of judicial activity.

Previously, reports connected Zarubin to another crime, the murder of a schoolgirl in Chelyabinsk, noted in coverage surrounding related developments and the broader security landscape in the region.
