Kyiv officials provided updates via Telegram, noting that a warehouse building in the Podil district caught fire. The blaze reportedly covered about 2,000 square meters, and emergency services have arrived on the scene to begin containment and evacuation measures as needed.
Earlier on the morning of January 2, an air raid alert was activated across Ukraine, including Kyiv. Later that day, explosions were reported in the capital. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said part of a downed unmanned aerial vehicle burned in an open field after explosions in Desnianskyi district on January 2, and a fragment from a rocket fell into a park area in Goloseyevskyi district. An explosion was also recorded in the Obolon district.
Eyewitness accounts subsequently described additional blasts near Kyiv, with reports indicating several more detonations. Local authorities urged residents to stay in shelters and follow official safety instructions during the ongoing security situation.
President Zelensky has stated that Ukraine intends to keep fighting on its own soil and will not allow hostilities to be transferred to Russian territory. Officials emphasize the importance of accurate information and caution against premature conclusions as investigations continue.
