Several Ukrainian missiles were reported destroyed in the Kursk region’s skies on the morning of August 24, according to a Telegram channel run by the acting regional governor, Alexey Smirnov. He credited the work of local air defense crews and border guards for repelling the threat.
Earlier, emergency crews from the Ministry of Extraordinary Situations neutralized a Tochka-U warhead discovered in the Kursk area. Investigators also checked routes leading to the main gas pipeline and cleared the site of potential explosive hazards.
On August 6, Kyiv’s forces reportedly launched a large-scale assault in the Kursk region. The area remains under a federal state of emergency, with authorities repeatedly warning of ongoing missile risk and elevated security measures.
President Vladimir Putin described the Ukrainian advance toward the Kursk border as an effort to hinder Russian movements toward the DPR, LPR, and a broader regional realignment. He stressed that the objective was to impede Russian operations and coordinate efforts in nearby territories.
