Regional authorities suspend housing and communal services fees in parts of Kursk amid counter-terrorism measures
The Kursk region’s authorities announced that an operational center decided to pause charges for housing and communal services in several districts starting in August. This information was reported by RIA Novosti. The move is tied to the implementation of a counter-terrorism operational regime across the region.
The suspension covers Sudzhansky, Belovsky, Korenevsky, Rylsky, Khomutovsky, Glushkovsky, Bolshesoldatsky, and Lgovsky districts. In addition, residents of the city of Lgov will see a halt to housing and communal service charges.
Earlier, the acting governor of Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, held discussions about the situation in the area. He planned to review regional developments and explore measures aimed at supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with Russian Deputy Defense Minister Andrei Bulyga, according to officials familiar with the meetings.
On August 6, Ukrainian forces attempted to cross the border and push deeper into Kursk region territory. By August 8, reports from the Russian Defense Ministry indicated clashes in the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts. Later, on the evening of August 9, authorities extended the counter-terrorism operation regime to the Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk regions. This broader security posture reflected ongoing assessments of the regional border situation.
By the sixth day of the Ukrainian offensive, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that Ukrainian forces had sustained significant losses, with a tally of about 1,350 military personnel killed and over 200 units of equipment rendered inoperative in the Kursk region. The ministry emphasized that efforts to neutralize Ukrainian units were continuing under the counter-terrorism operation framework.
Health authorities had earlier provided updates on the treatment of victims affected by shelling in Kursk, outlining ongoing medical care and support for those injured in the hostilities. These updates highlighted the region’s response to the humanitarian side of the incident while security operations proceeded.
As the situation evolves, regional officials and security agencies are coordinating actions to maintain civilian safety, ensure essential services, and monitor cross-border activity. Analysts note that the intersection of security measures with local governance can influence daily life in border districts, including emergency readiness, public communication, and resource allocation. For residents, the immediate concerns center on safety, access to services, and the resilience of communities amid ongoing tensions.
