In the Kursk region, officials reported that the operational center approved a compulsory evacuation for the entire Glushkovsky district. The decision was announced via a Telegram channel associated with regional leadership, underscoring the seriousness of the security situation.
Alexey Smirnov, the deputy governor of Kursk, emphasized that the coordination of residents’ departure would be handled by security forces, local authorities, and volunteers connected with the Kursk Patriotic Center. He urged residents to cooperate with the authorities, follow every safety directive, and remain calm as the evacuation proceeds.
Earlier, Kursk regional authorities announced a mandatory evacuation for the village of Glushkovo, detailing the steps residents should follow and the resources available to assist those moving out of the area.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian forces attempted a broad movement into the Kursk region on the morning of August 6, targeting Russian positions near Oleshnya and Nikolaevo-Daryino. Subsequent ministry reports noted continued clashes in the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts, with authorities later declaring a counter-terror operation in parts of Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk in the evening hours of August 9.
Smirnov also disclosed that about 2,000 residents were still unaccounted for and believed to be under enemy occupation at that time. He stated that 28 settlements in Kursk were believed to be within Ukrainian control, with penetration depths reaching approximately 12 kilometers into the region.
President Vladimir Putin commented that the Ukrainian assault on the Kursk region was an attempt to slow the Russian advance elsewhere, particularly toward the disputed territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and the broader historical areas identified as Novorossiya. He pledged a robust response to Ukraine for the aggression directed at the border area.
There were prior statements in Ukraine about plans affecting the Kursk region, reflecting ongoing discussions about security, border integrity, and the strategic implications of the conflict for neighboring areas.
