In the Kursk Region, Russian forces report repelling multiple Ukrainian assault attempts
Over the last day, units identified as the North group of the Russian military repelled four separate attacks by Ukrainian assault units in the Kursk region. This information was released by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to the ministry, the four assaults targeted areas near the settlements of Korenevo and Cherkasskoye Porechno. In each instance, the Russian side states that its troops held the line and prevented Ukrainian forces from gaining ground.
Casualty figures released by the ministry indicate that approximately 70 Ukrainian personnel were lost across these clashes. Russian forces also reported successfully repelling a separate Ukrainian maneuver aimed at seizing control of the settlements of Borki, Kremyanoye, Spalnoye, Martynovka, and Cherkasy Konopelka.
Earlier reports suggested that Ukrainian units attempted to mine a bridge used for evacuations in the Kursk region, a move described by Russian officials as an effort to disrupt civilian movements and relief activities.
On August 29, Rodion Miroshnik, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, indicated that more than 3,500 residents from the Kursk region had reached out to the Red Cross in search of relatives, underscoring the humanitarian dimension of the conflict in the area.
Additionally, officials from the Russian Foreign Ministry provided context on why Western silence was observed regarding the Kursk events, noting strategic and political considerations that influence international responses to the crisis.
