In Kurgan, a mother seeks accountability from hospital staff after her three-year-old son sustained a chemical burn during a medical procedure. The incident, reported by URA.RU, involved an injection administered at a local children’s hospital and the subsequent damage from prolonged contact with antiseptic on the child’s skin.
The events trace back to April 2023 when the boy arrived at Kurgan Children’s Hospital with symptoms believed to indicate double pneumonia. To address the condition, medical staff prescribed an injection. The nurse reportedly left cotton on the injection site, and the antiseptic remained in extended contact with the skin, leading to a chemical burn for the young patient.
Over the following weeks, the affected area developed into a sizable wound. The child’s mother described a deepening lesion that grew approximately 3 centimeters in depth and 2 centimeters in diameter, a change that signaled tissue damage beginning to necrose. The burn was treated surgically on two occasions as medical teams attempted to manage the complications arising from the injury.
After spending nearly four months in hospital care, the family discharged the child with ongoing concerns about the incident. Upon returning home, they filed a formal complaint with the Investigative Committee, and authorities opened a criminal case against one hospital employee alleging improper performance of duties in relation to the child’s treatment.
The Ministry of Health of the Kurgan Region confirmed to URA.RU that a medical-care trial related to the child’s treatment is currently underway, focusing on whether appropriate medical standards were met during the patient’s stay.
