In Kenya, authorities continued the grim task of locating and documenting victims linked to the Good News International Church sect. New findings emerged as search teams uncovered additional bodies, signaling a continuing crisis in the region. Reports from government spokespeople in the Malindi area indicate that the exhumations continued into the weekend, with fresh revelations released on Saturday. The toll from the sect has risen to 201 people, according to official updates. Earlier this week, teams recovered 29 bodies linked to the pastor’s followers, including 12 children, prompting fresh arrests and expanding the pool of those held in connection with the case. A new suspect was detained, and a total of 26 individuals currently face charges related to mass murder, including the pastor at the center of the investigation.

Earlier reports noted that members of the Good News International Church were among those who died in Kenya, with the casualty count climbing toward the 180s before the recent discoveries. The investigation now centers on the circumstances surrounding these deaths and the circumstances surrounding the pastor and his leadership.

The operations are taking place within the pastor’s residence compound, a mansion situated in the Shakahol forest area. The pastor, identified as Paul Mackenzie, is reported to have founded the sect approximately two decades ago, shaping a following that drew attention from local communities and authorities alike.

On the first day of May, a specialized team of investigators commenced autopsies on the exhumed remains. As investigations progressed, authorities reported that autopsy findings had begun to provide clarity on the causes of death for 112 individuals, contributing to the broader understanding of how these events unfolded and guiding ongoing investigative steps.
