In the Kaliningrad region, a regional court sentenced a 44-year-old man from Stavropol Territory after convicting him of murder linked to a pregnant partner he shared a home with. The information was released by the press office of the regional branch of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

The events unfolded in the autumn of 2009. At the time, the man lived with a 35-year-old woman who had become pregnant by him. He already had a legitimate spouse and three children, two of whom were from that marriage and one whose status was illegitimate asking for clarification. After discovering the pregnancy, the man decided to take on responsibility for the unborn child and the partner, a choice that would soon lead to deadly consequences.

In November, the accused killed the pregnant woman through strangulation and disposed of the body by sinking it in a well located in Kaliningrad. The gravely injured body was not found until February 2010, when investigators recovered the remains. Fearing potential criminal liability, the man fled back to the Stavropol Territory.

Later, in the summer of that same year, the defendant, who operated within a group that included others, participated in the murder of an investigator employed by the Russian Investigative Committee. After this act, he fled abroad, relocating to Ukraine. He was later extradited to Russia at the request of authorities and received an 18-year sentence in 2012 for the homicide tied to the murder operation.

Subsequent inquiries by investigators revealed a further link: the same man was implicated in the killing of a pregnant woman and transporting her remains to the Kaliningrad region. The ongoing case continues to unfold, with the court expected to issue a ruling on the defendant in the near term.

Earlier coverage noted that a suspect was detained in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman in Volgograd, highlighting the broader context of violent crimes during the period in question.
