Jet2 has announced the opening of its 13th UK base, located at London Luton, and revealed that nine of the seventeen direct destinations from that airport are in Spain. Operations are scheduled to begin on April 1, 2025. Among the details shared by the airline, Alicante Elche Airport will see up to four weekly flights during the summer season.

There will be additional Spanish links from the new base to Girona, which will operate on a weekly basis on Sundays, and Reus, with two weekly departures on Mondays and Thursdays. The carrier’s strategy places emphasis on island connections as well. In the Canary Islands, the airline plans to improve links to Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife Sur. Regarding the Balearic Islands, the new base will connect with both Ibiza and Menorca.

The announcement comes just one day after Aena published national terminal statistics, where Miguel Hernández Airport has established itself as the fifth busiest in Spain. This makes the news particularly relevant for Alicante province, as it highlights the weight of international travelers, especially those from the United Kingdom.
