Following Jesús Herrera’s rise to international recognition, his return to his homeland generated notable anticipation, marked by the honor of being chosen by the National History Museum of Denmark to portray Crown Princess Mary. This milestone underscored his stature in a global artistic dialogue and signaled a bridge between his European heritage and his evolving artistic voice.
Today, Herrera is based in Copenhagen, where he maintains an active studio practice. His formal training began at the Polytechnic School of Valencia, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Drawing after completing his Fine Arts studies. His artistic journey extended beyond the university walls through residencies and workshops in Italy, Brazil, and Cuba, experiences that enriched his technical vocabulary and broadened his cultural perspectives. Since 2006, he has presented solo exhibitions not only in Spain and other European locales but also across the Americas, including Mexico, Romania, Bolivia, and the United States, signaling a sustained international engagement while continuing to develop his distinctive approach in his home country.
Herrera’s work has appeared in numerous prominent art fairs and venues, including ARCO, ART MADRID, Arte Lisboa, JustMAD, and ArteSantander, as well as international fairs such as PINTA, Art Lima, SP-ARTE in Brazil, and Odeon in Colombia. His participation spans broad audiences and diverse contexts, reflecting a career built on both frequent collaborations and selective showcases. He has also joined curated group exhibitions that highlight artists connected to prestigious institutions, such as the Spanish Academy in Rome, where he was elected in 2014, and the Casa de Velázquez fellowship program, which he received in 2016. Recent projects include creating a fresco for the Royal Spanish Academy in Rome, a commission that situates his practice within a dialogue of historical institutions and contemporary expression.
