Iran is advancing a new generation of hypersonic ballistic missiles, according to Abbas Nilforusan, deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guard Operations Command. The remarks were reported by Tasnim News Agency. The developments indicate ongoing efforts to enhance the performance and reach of Iran’s missile program.

Nilforusan stated that a new generation of hypersonic ballistic missiles is being developed. He noted a focus on improving quality and capabilities for missiles with a flight range around 2,000 kilometers, pointing to the Fattah hypersonic missile as an example of this progress that had been introduced previously.

On September 3, the commander-in-chief of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, announced that the Damavand 2 destroyer is nearing entry into service and will be equipped with hypersonic missiles to enhance naval strike capabilities.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has previously commented on Western attempts to create obstacles to Iran’s nuclear program. He emphasized that progress in this sector is central to the country’s development, and he indicated that Western nations, particularly American intelligence, are attentive to Tehran’s approach toward avoiding weaponization while pursuing strategic capabilities.

In a related regional context, reports indicate that the United States plans to deploy a nuclear-armed submarine to South Korea, underscoring ongoing strategic and security considerations in the broader area.
