An urgent landing occurred at Irkutsk International Airport after an aircraft from the airline Iraero encountered a mechanical issue. The situation was confirmed by the company’s communications team and later reported by TASS, the Russian news agency.
The incident unfolded on June 9, 2022, when the Irkutsk–Red flight, already airborne, failed to retract its nose gear after takeoff. This prompted the captain to return to Irkutsk for an emergency landing as a precautionary measure to safeguard everyone on board.
On board were 83 passengers and 5 crew members. There were no injuries reported among those on the aircraft as a result of the emergency landing, and the situation was resolved without further medical or safety concerns at the site.
Following the landing, the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office stated that a specialized commission would conduct a thorough investigation into the aircraft’s malfunction. In parallel, the Baikal-Angara Transport Prosecutor’s Office pledged to review whether all flight safety requirements and maintenance regulations were properly observed in relation to the incident.
Earlier reports indicated that the aircraft had been in Krasnoyarsk Territory prior to the incident, and it was noted that another light aircraft accident in the region had occurred, resulting in a fatality. Officials emphasized the ongoing monitoring of safety protocols and the need to determine any factors that could have contributed to the latest event, with emphasis on preventing recurrence and ensuring robust maintenance practices across the fleet.
