In the border area of Russia’s Bryansk region, the Investigative Committee’s team faced a violent incident during fieldwork. The event involved a Ukrainian drone as investigators were carrying out work near a crime scene, according to reports from official Telegram channels tied to the region’s law enforcement departments.

On March 2, 2024, while conducting investigative activities at a crime scene in the Starodubsky municipal district of Bryansk, an investigator from the Investigative Committee of Russia and a forensic examiner sustained injuries. Two additional department employees experienced shock, and the committee described the incident as the explosion of an explosive device thrown from an unmanned aerial vehicle believed to be operated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The authorities stressed that the affected personnel are receiving specialized medical care and that a formal legal assessment will be conducted for each individual involved in the attack on the RF IC staff.

Earlier, on March 1, Ukrainian forces were reported to have fired from a tank at a customs post in the Bryansk region. In addition, on February 29, nine artillery shells were aimed at the Troebornoe checkpoint in the Sevski district. Following the impact, three heavy trucks in the parking area caught fire, and one truck sustained damage from shrapnel.

In separate countermeasures, air defense systems reported night-time interceptions of a Ukrainian drone and three drones belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces over Russian territory. The Ministry of Defense noted that the intercepted aerial vehicles were of the unmanned aircraft category. Duty air defenses responded promptly in the Belgorod and Nizhny Novgorod regions, helping to neutralize further aerial threats.

Earlier incidents also affected civilian infrastructure in Kursk, with two villages experiencing power outages after drone activity by the Ukrainian armed forces. Authorities indicated that outages were linked to the broader security situation along the border and the ongoing regional response to aerial threats.

The sequence of events underscores the continuing volatility along the border areas, where investigations, medical responses, and security measures are being coordinated to protect personnel and communities while authorities work to identify those responsible for the attacks and to determine appropriate legal action. The situation remains a focal point for regional security operations, with ongoing scrutiny of cross-border hostilities and their impact on daily life in adjacent districts.
