The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has ordered a sequence of formal inquiries into the case involving Irek Magasumov, a Hero of Russia and a Lieutenant Colonel, who faces a murder accusation. The updates were conveyed by the soldier’s attorney, Alexey Sandalov, according to reports from RIA News.
According to the lawyer, the plan includes a comprehensive set of medical, forensic, and ballistic evaluations. In addition, Magasumov will undergo various psychological and psychiatric assessments as part of the review process.
“Twelve examinations were planned for the case,” the attorney stated, outlining the breadth of the medical and investigative work ahead.
As explained by Sandalov, investigators had already ordered three examinations within Magasumov’s case. The ongoing process requires experts to examine the clothing of Magasumov and his colleague for traces of gunpowder, aiming to pinpoint the sequence of events and the involvement of the individuals at the scene.
Both defendants and witnesses are required to participate in the examinations. They will also undergo tests that assess their mental health, contributing to a fuller understanding of each person’s state of mind during the incident.
Magasumov remains in custody, and the main investigations are being conducted by officials from the Main Military Investigation Department of the Russian Federation’s Investigative Committee. The defense emphasized that the case is being handled within the structure designated for military investigations, highlighting the gravity and complexity of the matter.
Sandalov disclosed that a criminal case has also been opened regarding the death of a girl in Lugansk. Investigators believe that in August of the previous year, Magasumov, together with a teammate, met two women at the Panorama cafe. The narrative describes how the group moved outside to a nearby area with benches, where a conflict arose between the women and the military personnel. In the course of this confrontation, Magasumov allegedly discharged a firearm at one of the individuals involved.
Defense representatives maintain that another soldier may have fired the weapon by mistake. The defense asserts that Magasumov was not present at the moment when the gun was discharged, and the triggering of the weapon did not involve him directly. This claim adds a layer of complexity to establishing accountability for the incident in question.
