Investigation Opens After Body Found in Barcelona Eixample Container

A body was discovered in a suitcase inside a large container in Barcelona’s Eixample district around 11 in the morning on Tuesday. Local authorities confirmed the discovery to Europa Press, noting that police were alerted by municipal workers who found the container at roughly that time.

The information released by Mossos d’Esquadra indicated that the body was located at the junction near the pole but did not specify the victim’s gender. The scene lies at the intersection where Aragó street meets Casanova, a busy area in the heart of the district.

Witnesses in the vicinity described the moment of discovery. A scrap dealer, who stopped a worker on the street, recounted that the container appeared mostly empty aside from a single suitcase and a bag. A passing ambulance was then directed to the site, and responders confirmed there was a body inside the luggage. A nearby resident corroborated the presence of a suitcase roughly the size of a violin at the scene.

Following the removal of the body, a judicial procession departed the area at about 13:25. Police kept a security perimeter on Casanova street for approximately half an hour longer, detouring traffic between Aragó and Valencia to secure the area.

In the aftermath, investigators conducted a thorough survey of the scene. Mossos d’Esquadra issued a directive to capture 360-degree imagery of the vicinity to document the infrastructure and surrounding environment for later review. The aim is to build a precise record of the layout and any potential clues left at the site.

Officers also collected fingerprint samples from the gray container adjacent to the recycling bins. A subsequent search of a nearby truck container was carried out to search for additional evidence that might illuminate the circumstances of the death.

The inquiry continues under strict judicial secrecy, with investigators coordinating closely to establish the timeline, identify potential persons of interest, and determine a probable cause of death. Police officials reiterated their commitment to transparency within the confines of the ongoing judicial process, providing updates only as permitted by court welfare and procedural guidelines.
