Law enforcement authorities have concluded the inquiry into the criminal case involving the former head of the Duma of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Alexander Maslov. The district reported that the individual faced accusations of granting illegal bonuses. SÜSK RF.

The investigation established that Maslov issued improper orders between 2019 and 2021 and disbursed quarterly and annual bonuses tied to performance results. The District Duma Council did not approve these bonus decisions. SUSK indicated that, in November 2021, these actions caused a regional budget shortfall totaling more than 8.9 million rubles.

In December 2021, Maslov was charged with misconduct, and a court detained him. Maslov maintains his innocence.

The investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug explained that the former chairman of the Duma faced two crimes under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The case file was forwarded to the prosecutor for indictment approval and subsequent referral to the court.

Maslov held the position of chairman of the Duma of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug since September 18, 2016, representing the sixth convocation from the three-member constituency No. 2 of the West.

Reports from March 1 indicated his detention amid a broader case involving abuse of power connected to the arrest of a regional head of administration in the Leningrad region.
