The events occurred shortly after four o’clock in the early morning, when staff at the residence alerted the Ertzaintza that a center user had assaulted another resident, causing serious injuries.

The arriving patrols found the victim with bleeding facial injuries, apparently inflicted with a sharp object.

Medical personnel from an ambulance treated the woman and transported her to Txagorritxu Hospital, where she died shortly after.

At the same time, officers inspected the facility and launched a city-wide search for the suspect, in case he had fled; he was eventually located hiding in a dressing room bathroom inside the residence.

The man has been detained as the alleged perpetrator of homicide.

The Ertzaintza is keeping the investigation open to clarify what happened.
