An employment inquiry into a nightclub in Manacor, Majorca, revealed that eight women were working there without formal contracts and without official social security registration in the local area. Police in Manacor arrested a 49-year-old man who is suspected of involvement in a crime linked to workers’ rights violations. Seven of the women lacked residence permits, entering the country at different times as travelers and staying during a transitional period that did not permit lawful work.

The inquiry began last April as part of a coordinated effort by the National Police. The force, through the Foreigners and Citizen Security Unit in collaboration with the Labor Inspectorate and Manacor Local Police, initiated inspections at catering venues in Manacor. The goal was to assess the working conditions of employees at these establishments and to identify any signs of illegal employment or exploitation.

The inspections aimed to uncover any form of exploitation of workers and to identify potential offenses carrying criminal or administrative implications in a workplace setting. Officials were also focused on detecting victims of trafficking who might be exploited for sexual or labor purposes.

During one inspection at the Manacor nightclub, a deputy inspector from the Labor Inspectorate accompanied the police. Officers met the women present at the venue and, in most cases, learned that an agreement had been reached with the nightclub director to maintain an ongoing employment relationship. None of the women were registered with Social Security and none had health insurance.

Foreign women who worked there without a contract had stayed in Spain only briefly. They had entered the country as tourists and remained in a transitional period that prevented them from engaging in work activities.

Based on these findings, the Labor Inspectorate prepared a formal report. The report concluded that the person in charge of the Manacor establishment had been involved in an alleged crime related to workers’ rights violations.

The Labor Inspectorate forwarded the report to the Immigration and Borders Subgroup of the National Police in Manacor. In response, officers began the process of locating the owner of the club and pursuing the alleged criminal conduct.
