Investigating an Inflatable Accident at a Murcia Youth Football Tournament

A young boy, eleven years old, was injured when a bouncy castle toppled onto him at a sports complex in Santiago el Mayor, Murcia. Emergency services confirmed the incident occurred during a weekend football tournament for youth players, specifically the City of Murcia 8-a-side tournament for youngsters and pre-teens.

The events unfolded around five ten in the afternoon when staff at emergency response center 112 received a call requesting urgent medical aid. The boy was unconscious after the inflatable structure collapsed on him. Lifeguards and on-site responders were immediately engaged in life-support efforts.

Police officers from Murcia Local Police and a mobile emergency unit (UME) from the health service were dispatched to the scene.

Investigating the anchorage

Once the boy was stabilized, a medical professional from the UME noted the need for urgent transfer to a hospital and described the injuries as a concussion as the young patient was moved to Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital for further care.

Regarding the cause of the accident, local sources indicate that investigators are examining whether the inflatable was properly anchored. This type of incident is not without precedent, with a separate tragedy in Valencia where a four-year-old girl lost her life after an inflatable incident.
