Two Sukhoi Su-27 fighter jets of the Russian armed forces were placed on high alert after three aerial targets were detected near the nation’s border. The information came from the press service of Russia’s Defense Ministry.
To identify the approaching targets without crossing the border, two Su-27s stationed with the air defense forces were promptly scrambled. The Defense Ministry identified the intruding aircraft as a RC-135 electronic reconnaissance and electronic warfare plane, accompanied by two RAF Typhoon multirole fighters. The emergency response aimed to verify the threat while maintaining the integrity of Russian airspace.
As the Russian fighters neared the foreign formations, they maneuvered to avoid the border and then turned away, returning to their home airfields after completing the interception. The incident was managed in accordance with standard operating procedures for border defense and airspace control.
According to the Defense Ministry, Russia did not violate its state borders during the encounter. Russian air force operations were conducted in full compliance with international norms governing the use of airspace over neutral waters, underscoring adherence to established international agreements and protocols for aerial activity near coastal boundaries.
