Inditex continues a bold expansion at its Arteixo base in Galicia, moving forward with a large-scale project designed to house the Zara commercial and design teams. The initiative carries a total investment of 238 million euros, with VAT lifting the overall figure to about 280 million. Construction began earlier in the year, starting with a substantial excavation phase, and after roughly ten months the foundations are beginning to take shape above ground.
On the site adjacent to the network service facilities on A Ponte street, heavy equipment including excavators, cranes, and pile drivers are actively at work. The workforce has progressed in laying the foundations and has installed prefabricated earth retaining walls, signaling solid momentum in the early stages of the project.
When the project was announced last December, Inditex outlined a two-year timeline. That schedule suggests the building will reach completion in about two years, with most visible progress anticipated after the first year of work.
The initiative involves constructing a purpose-built facility to accommodate the Zara commercial and design teams. The plan envisions five above-ground floors and two underground parking levels. The ground floor will host pilot shops and mold-making areas for each division. The first floor is designated for the men’s line and the second floor for the children’s range, while the third and fourth floors will be allocated to the women’s division. The two upper floors will house large, interconnected workspaces for the commercial teams, each spanning about 9,500 square meters within a footprint roughly 230 meters long and 104 meters wide.
The building is planned to rise to a height of 26.8 meters, covering approximately 170,000 square meters in total. The design emphasizes open, flexible spaces capable of adapting to various configurations. Large horizontal windows and broad eaves invite ample natural light, creating a bright, airy atmosphere inside the work areas.
The development has been conceived by the Batlle i Roig architectural studio. The concept centers on modular, adaptable workspaces that can be reconfigured to meet changing needs. A key objective is energy efficiency and long-term energy self-sufficiency, supported by three new structures. The outer harbor of Langosteira will host wind turbines, contributing to the project’s renewable energy strategy and reducing the building’s environmental footprint.
