Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, reported a sharp rise in criminal cases involving immigrants under serious charges. The information was disseminated through Interfax.
Bastrykin noted that in 2022, 4,729 complaints were filed about offenses carried out with the involvement of foreign nationals. Consequently, 4,231 criminal cases were opened, a figure that nearly triples the number seen in 2021.
He highlighted that the trend in serious and especially serious offenses is troubling. In the previous year, 893 cases were initiated for crimes such as murder and intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm that resulted in death. This represents a fivefold increase compared with 2021.
The official also mentioned a rise in extremist sentiments among migrants and a growing number of offenses related to sexual integrity.
There was a mention that conditions for staying in the Russian Federation for foreign citizens could be adjusted in light of these developments.
