Upon reaching the scene, the paramedics were met at the apartment door by the patient’s wife, who, after a heated exchange, physically assaulted the paramedic, striking him repeatedly and sending the officer off balance.
The patient explained his grievance by insisting the medical team had arrived too slowly to provide care. Once the National Guard contingent arrived, the altercation subsided, and authorities were able to detain the 50-year-old man and secure him for transfer to local police custody. The spouse who participated in the assault was also intoxicated and did not consent to medical assistance at that moment.
