During the initial check of a colony area, an inmate assaulted an employee. The incident was reported by the press office of Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Altai Republic.

The event took place on the morning of June 14 in the village of Maima, within Maiminsky District, where Colony No. 1 operates. In the task unit building, a 35-year-old resident from the Chemalsky district disagreed with the officials’ directives. He had arrived at the detention center to serve a court sentence for deliberately failing to pay child support.

Investigators concluded that the standard search procedure had caused the prisoner discomfort. In a fit of anger, he began to threaten a correctional service officer and attempted to strike him. He grabbed the officer by elements of the uniform, but other staff members at the colony quickly restrained him.

A new criminal case was opened against the detainee. He now faces charges related to disrupting the activities of institutions that provide isolation from society.

Forensic examination is ongoing to determine the full extent of injuries and to establish the sequence of events during the confrontation.

In related recall, a former Saratov prisoner reportedly sought to sell a kidney as a means to exit a colony. Another low-security incident involved a prisoner from Omsk who took a health employee hostage.
