Imont Legal & Taxes marks 20 years of international real estate expertise in Spain

Imont Legal & Taxes celebrated its 20th anniversary on July 12. For two decades the firm has built a professional track record, advising international clients on real estate purchases and taxation in Spain. Its founder and CEO, Isabel Montesinos, reflects on the evolution of the sector and the path Imont has taken. She explains that the idea emerged from personal experience. While living abroad, she witnessed the challenges international buyers face when trying to buy a home. Returning to Spain, she chose to establish Imont as a law firm focused on international real estate, with the primary aim of delivering high-quality legal guidance to clients from abroad who want to buy or sell property in Spain. Imont believes that buying a home is a significant moment, and it should be experienced with the reassurance that comes from having a lawyer who can provide counsel in the client’s own language. For Imont, excellent client service is essential.

Over these twenty years the sector has seen many changes in how purchases are managed and in the diversity of clients. Imont notes that previously most clients were British, but after Brexit the profile shifted. Today the firm serves a broader audience, including Belgian, Dutch, Polish, and German buyers interested in acquiring a second home on the Costa Blanca or the Costa Cálida.

In the wake of Brexit and the Covid pandemic, there has also been a rise in residency permissions, including the Nomad Visa and the Golden Visa. Many clients coming to Imont are not simply looking for a vacation home; they seek a place to spend extended periods, and some plan to establish their own business in Spain or to telework from the country.

Imont has evolved to meet these needs by offering guidance on real estate transactions in multiple languages and by providing tax advisory services to clarify questions and manage tax obligations for both residents and non-residents.

Since the opening of the San Javier office in 2004, the Imont Legal & Taxes team has grown significantly. Today the company operates four offices along the Mediterranean coast, three of them in the Costa Cálida (San Javier), Costa Blanca South (La Zenia), and Costa Blanca North. A fourth location is in Madrid, where the entire legal defense for clients before the courts is coordinated.

Looking to the future with confidence, the firm remains committed to delivering the best possible guidance to international residents, always pursuing excellence in service.
